Rule of Law

When law is applied to everybody, it results in an orderly society and a peaceful country. It is very unusual that laws are broken out of ignorance; mostly it is the greedy and those with vested interests that do not comply with law. There are also crimes of passion which happen in every society; however, in countries where the law is applied equally to all and sundry, the causes for crimes of passion decrease dramatically.   Sometimes the law-breakers are brazenly open and go against the legal system unabashedly; sometimes, the laws are broken by deceit.

Whatever, the reason for breaking laws and whatever methods are applied to hoodwink or break laws the result is always the same: lawlessness creates injustice legally, socially and economically which results in resentment among the common citizens. It also creates hopelessness among honest people and they think that they will never be able to achieve their social and economic goals through fair means. This results in many opting for illegal means to achieve ends, sometimes the illegal means are not just white collar crimes, but rather crimes executed through violence.

Lawlessness also creates a sense that peaceful people cannot redress the wrongs done to them. This encourages disdain for the law and law enforcing agencies. Under such situations, people seek other methods and sources and not legal recourse to solve their problems.

One thing has to be understood that governments which do not take strict actions against law-breakers loose their writ, as well as the power and respect of the people of their countries and in the end, the government simply topples. This leaves a vacuum in the country which is filled by gangsters, vigilantes, robbers, smugglers, murders and cheats.

However if a government is particular about punishing those who break the law, it gets the support of the ordinary citizens who are mostly law-abiding people. This attitude also increases the confidence of the people in achieving their goals and redressing the wrongs. What follows is a society and country where the people instead of taking matters in their hands, usually patiently wait for the law to take its course and right the wrong; this attitude generally improves the standard and quality of life. It also brings orderliness in the affairs of states and citizens which combine to increase trade, industry and results in increased prosperity. In the long-run it pays for everybody to abide by the law.
